Grassways/Lanes Neighbourhood Officers-December 24 to 30, 2020

Neighbourhood Officers conducted their weekly video sessions of the Gang Resistance Education And Training G.R.E.A.T. program to thirty-one students from Brookview Middle School and Oakdale Public School. The sessions covered various topics including: coping with stress, mental health and related matters.
Neighbourhood Officers attended various locations within 31 Division to distribute gifts. Officers attended the Jane and Finch Plaza, the Esso Gas Station, the Jane and Wilson Plaza and Yorkwoods Plaza to distribute toys, board games, and other gifts to the community. The community members were extremely happy with the gesture and appreciated the officers’ undertaking. Officers were able to deliver to the community a van full of gifts from 31 Division.
Officers handed out some remaining gifts to residents in the area who were very grateful and happy to see officers still out and about on Christmas day. They also conducted patrols in assigned areas, including Driftwood and Shoreham Ct, The Lanes, Grassways, and Yorkwoods Plaza.
Neighbourhood officers attended various areas handing out winter mittens, tuques, scarfs and jackets to some of the homeless individuals within the division’s boundaries. The recipients expressed their appreciation, especially during this period of inclement weather.
Neighbourhood officers picked up a substantial amount of food and clothing donated by Paul Davis, author and speaker at TEDx conference. The initial contact was made by a TPS twitter follower. He reached out to 31 Division Neighbourhood Team through twitter and offered to donate groceries to members of our community. Officers met Paul and discussed future partnership to provide help for our community members.
Neighbourhood officers attended Yorkwoods Plaza and distributed the donated clothes and food to residents in need. The residents voiced their gratitude and acknowledged appreciated for the officers’ effort. One resident explained that she was just out begging for money because she did not have enough for her family's grocery needs.
